The Cembra Money Bank AG is a Swiss credit institution specializing in personal loans (Cembra Kredit), leasing, credit cards and savings. The credit institution mainly targets the Swiss market and the Principality of Liechtenstein, but also the direct neighbouring countries.
Cembra Money Bank was founded in 1912 as Bank Prokredit. In 1998, the bank was taken over by GE Capital. In 2006, Bank Pro Kredit and Bank Aufina merged under the name GE Money. The bank was to be sold in 2013. In the same year, however, the bank went public under the name Cembra Money Bank. Since then, GE Capital and General Electric have held approximately one third of the shares, the rest is free float. The name of the bank is derived from the Latin term pinus cembra for Swiss stone pine and represents the brand values of the bank.
